Lead Mechanic - Draper, UT

75 East Southfork Drive, Draper, UT, 84020

Job Description

About the Role

Boondocks Food & Fun is seeking a full-time, energetic, and highly skilled Lead Mechanic to join our site leadership team. In this role, you will oversee the care, preventative maintenance, and repair of our fleet of state-of-the-art go-karts and bumper boats, as well as vital facility grounds equipment.

As our Lead Mechanic, you aren't just turning wrenches—you are a critical guardian of guest safety, a mentor to track team members, and a key operational partner to the General Manager. If you are a self-motivated technical professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in keeping complex mechanical systems running at peak performance, we want you on our team.

Core Responsibilities

Technical & Preventative Maintenance

  • Fleet Care: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform mechanical repairs on go-karts and bumper boats.
  • Scheduled PMs: Execute thorough 200-hour and 1200-hour preventative maintenance cycles on go-karts, including degreasing, pressure washing, conducting 22-point inspections, and servicing valves.
  • Daily Pre-Opening Checks: Inspect bumper boats daily to verify electric motors, water squirters, tube pressure, automated sump pumps, and 24V battery charging statuses.
  • Fluid & Battery Management: Perform weekly checks on go-kart engine oil and gear reduction case reservoirs. Inspect and top off bumper boat batteries weekly using distilled water.
  • Facility & Grounds Equipment: Set up and manage preventative maintenance schedules (including oil changes) for property grounds tools, including pressure washers, leaf blowers, and snowblowers.
  • Aesthetics & Rebuilds: Establish a process during 1200-hour service windows to buff, polish, and rebuild karts and boats to prevent weathering and maximize equipment lifespan.

Safety, Rigor & Quality Control

  • Track & Pond Safety: Walk the track weekly to proactively check for cracks in perimeter rail welds under tension. Inspect heavy steel I-beam track gates, rollers, and timing electronics.
  • Dock Inspections: Conduct daily pre-opening inspections of boat dock handrails, ropes, securing clamps, child life vests, and emergency life rings/hooks.
  • Ride Control Systems: Ensure the Kartrol speed-control system functions flawlessly across all active karts, immediately pulling and tagging any non-responsive vehicles for shop repair.

Administration & Leadership

  • Operational Reporting: Maintain a tight feedback loop with the General Manager, delivering weekly equipment status reports to prioritize welding projects, part updates, and facility needs.
  • Rigorous Record-Keeping: Log all equipment maintenance, repairs, and special projects via computer tracking software—accurately documenting dates, vehicle IDs, labor hours, specific repairs, and parts used.
  • Inventory & Fuel Logistics: Track usage data and costs to maintain strict par levels for high-frequency inventory items (spark plugs, gaskets, filters, etc.). Monitor above-ground fuel levels and schedule weekly or bi-weekly gasoline deliveries based on seasonal volume.
  • Shop Stewardship: Maintain an organized tool tracking system. Ensure the maintenance shop, tool stations, and shop restroom are thoroughly cleaned and organized at the end of every shift.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate in mandatory monthly peer Zoom calls with Lead Mechanics from other parks to share best practices and brainstorm solutions. Observe track operations, coach team members on safety protocols, and assist with general operations in limited scenarios.

Job Requirements

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of engine repair experience. A proven track record in motorsports, golf karts, go-karts, motorcycles, or small engine repair is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret English safety rules, operating/maintenance manuals, and technical procedures. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid mechanical conclusions.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform heavy lifting, and work comfortably in shop, track, and waterfront environments.
  • Availability: Reliable transportation is required, and availability to work Saturdays is mandatory.
  • Eligibility: Must provide proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, customized based on your depth of mechanical experience.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance packages available after 30 days of full-time employment.
  • Matching 401(k) program.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and paid holidays.
  • Generous 50% employee discount on park food, dining, and attractions.
